Leo was 5 months old when we first slipped on his very first pair of Slugs and Snails. 

Slugs and Snails are tights specifically designed for boys. They are bright, bold and above all else, completely individual. 

In the 15 months that I have been putting Leo in these tights I have had the pleasure of getting to know Kat Redmond, the amazing lady behind these tights. I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing this woman is and how much time and effort she puts into making Slugs and Snails all that they are today, and all that they will be tomorrow.

I have never come across another child wearing Slugs, although we always get so many compliments on Leo’s tights and I am always happy to share where I got them and give them the website details. If I am honest I am always happy to share everything about this amazing company, as I quite honestly love them.

Last year as Autumn was setting in I was taking Leo to a local farm park to see all the animals, and I remember seeing a little boy crying. He was crying because he couldn’t tuck his jeans into his pair of wellington boots. I stood there watching his Mum trying to tuck them in, and then he would cry some more because she couldn’t get it right. 

I couldn’t help thinking that he should be wearing a pair of Slugs as then he wouldn’t be having that problem…. I am always pairing Slugs with Leo’s wellies and he never ever has this problem.

If you take a look around the high street shops you will be met with a disappointing selection of jeans, joggers and more jeans. There isn’t much colour splashed about in the boys section and this makes me feel sad. 

When I look at Leo he is full of bright colours. He looks super and that is all down to the amazing selection of Slugs and Snails he has in his wardrobe. Kat is always developing new and exciting designs to keep the kid’s bright and warm, and she has even re-designed a pair of my favourites (Spooked) with additional colours!

There are currently 9 different styles available in the Slugs and Snails range and I know that there are more in the design process. It has been amazing to see how Kat has grown Slugs and Snails since 2011, from 4 designs to 9! Kat was just launching Slugs and Snails just as I was beginning my blogging journey and she happened to be one of the very first people I tweeted with on Twitter!

Kat truly has come such a long way and even fought off criticism about Slugs and Snails tights making little boy’s gay! This of course is complete and utter madness. A child is going to be whoever they were born to be, a pair of tights is not going to make a blind scrap of difference and the insinuation is just laughable. 

These tights have given Leo the flexibility to move, they have seen him through rolling over, crawling and walking. He runs around in his tights and little suede boots like a rock star. He is the most daring and adventurous little boy that I know and I love that Slugs and Snails have given him this freedom.

Slugs & Snails - How Do You Wear Your's?

If you are a regular visitor to my little part of cyber space, then my love of boy's tights is no secret... and when I say boy's tights I do of course mean Slugs & Snails. 

Leo has been nick named the boy in tights in our family, and it is not hard to work out why. Leo practically lives in his unique yet stylish tights, and as soon as they have been worn they are back in the wash and laid back out on the washing line for another day of use. 

Leo wears his tights in all their glory, we match up a T-Shirt or jumper and he is set to impress in each of the Four rockin' designs. We never ever cover up our Slugs & Snails with jeans, the idea of hiding away the colour and imagination that these tights share with everyone around them...Just seems outrageous.

When Leo enters a room, he is always the only baby boy in tights. This does not phase me and and most certainly does not phase Leo! In fact we feel very proud of ourselves and Kat when we are complimented on Leo's attire and always share the details to the official Slugs & Snails website, so they can get a pair for their little one.

It seems a shame to cover up the colourful vibrant tights with jeans, however this is always a option for when the weather turns colder. Slugs & Snails are the perfect clothing for babies always on the go, looking out for their next adventure...Maybe that is why Leo and I love them so much!

I am talking about my bright eyed boy, who wears his boy tights on his daily adventures. They allow him to move freely and never restrict him. They allow him to be care free and enjoy everything life throws at him!

Slugs & Snails Need Our Vote!

The Life and Times of The Working Mum, is a HUGE fan of 'Slugs & Snails' and no... I am not talking about the slimey creatures who inhabit out in the garden...'Slugs & Snails' is a family run business started by the amazing Kathleen Redmond back in 2008, with the birth of beautiful baby Noah.

Kat and her family live on the West coast of Ireland, at the very top of a windy hill. Keeping Noah warm was their number one priority, and it was not long before Kat found the solution to keeping Noah warm and snuggly. Tights!

Of course if you have ever tried to find tights for your baby boy on the high street, you will know first hand, that unless you want a lovely pink pair with hearts and flowers dotted all over, your choice is...well...very limited.

So for a little while...This is what Noah wore. They kept Noah toasty warm and fulfilled the primary objective, but it was around this time that Kat started to come up with the unique and colourful designs that you see today, in the fabulous 'Slugs & Snails' - Tights for boys.

Kat launched 'Slugs & Snails' back in November 2011 after Three years of learning the In's and out's of the children's fashion market, and building 'Slugs & Snails' from the ground up to what you see today. It is safe to say that Kat has worked her socks (sorry tights) off to get to where she is right now in 2012.

Kat's efforts have been recognised by many people, customers and supporters alike, who have been over the moon with the bright colourful designs, that keep their baby boy's warm but also looking their very best. Leo and I use our 'Slugs & Snails' on a weekly basis, they are worn and then straight back into the wash ready to wear again.

There has been so much love for the coveted 'Slugs & Snails' that they are currently in the running for “Mumpreneur of the Year” and “Award for Innovation” with The Baby Hub Family First Awards!

This is such an amazing achievement for Kat, her company and above all else, her family.

Having only launched 'Slugs Snails' in November 2011, it is the greatest achievement to have stormed through the original 300 entrants, made the top 100 on the shortlist and then gone on to make it to the final four in the Innovation category.

Brit Mums Live 2012

Being a relatively new Mummy blogger, there are many things I do not know and I do not proclaim to have all the knowledge about. More often than not I find out about things after they have happened and sometimes I just don't have the resources to attend. On this occasion though, I am more than aware of the up and coming Brit Mums Live! event and there have been moments in time, that I have found myself sitting there and day dreaming at the thought of attending.

For those of you who do not know what Brit Mums Live is...Brit Mums Live! is the biggest blogging event of the year and is devoted entirely to a parenting audience and run by the UK’s largest parent blogging network of more than 3k influential and engaged bloggers.

On Friday June 22 and Saturday June 23 2012 hundreds of delegates will descend in their masses to London in order to share best practises, network, and polish up their blogging skills in workshops tailored to novice and expert levels.

BritMums Live! is a two-day blogger event that has grown out of BritMums, the UK's largest parent blogger community, made up of more than 3,000 influential bloggers. The thoughts of attending soon got me wondering how this could become more than a dream.... Of course being on maternity leave this does not leave much spare cash for such luxuries in life.

I have scratched my head, I have umm'd and arhhh'd and I still could not see a way of making this dream a reality. I have heard that some very privileged bloggers occasionally get sponsored to go to such events and suddenly I had the most amazing idea. It is one of those ideas that shoots like lightening and suddenly you wonder why you did not think of it before.

Back in October when I first engaged with Twitter, I came across the most amazing new business. You will all know exactly who I am talking about in a moment, as I have always been very smitten with all that she does, and happily shared my discovery with you right here. I am talking about the lovely Kat, who has brought us her fabulous boy tights through her successful company Slugs & Snails.

Right from day One I fell head over heels for those amazing tights, and it was not long before I had ordered a few pairs to model on Leo. To this day we wear them more than anything else and are always being complimented on the great designs and bright colours. I always beam when I hear this and point them in Kat's direction.

So you are probably wondering what this has to do with my struck by lightening idea? Well... Once I had recovered from the initial bolt, I sent Kat an email.

The outcome of our email exchange is so positive and I am so pleased to announce that Kat and I have joined forces, as Two working Mummy's uniting together. The Life and Times of The Working Mum is now proud to present you with Slugs & Snails, our amazing sponsor.

I can not think of anyone I would rather work with and I hope that this new bridge we have crossed, will draw in lots of new Mummy's with beautiful baby boys to discover the wonder that is boy's tights.
