A Slip Of The Tounge

I think every parent has a little slip of the tongue at some point. I for one am not exempt from this un-written rule.

Take the other day for example, when something happened, it must have been something trivial as I cannot for the life of me remember what it was. Maybe I dropped my phone or lost the lid to a bottle…

I don’t know.

However I do remember saying ‘Damn it!’ for some reason or another, and as soon as the words had left my mouth I regretted them. I looked down to see Leo staring up at me, before he in turn repeated me word for word.

I sat there un-sure he had just said what I thought he had…But he most certainly had. I haven’t heard it since and I have been very careful with everything I have said since…I have even tried to convince myself that he said ‘Jam’.

I found myself thinking how typical it was.

Out of all the words I try to get him to say on a daily basis, words that I repeat over and over to him, he ignores, but he says the one thing I say right off the tip of my tongue, words that I had no intention of him picking up on.

I really need to take into consideration what I say, even if it is in the spur of the moment. There are little eyes and ears everywhere and apparently it is those words said in the spur of the moment that they will pick up on.

I don’t think I had even realised I had a parrot in my midst, I guess I am still thinking we are months off having to worry about this sort of thing, but the fact remains that Leo is learning and Mummy needs to curve her tongue!

  1. I have done it worse- it pains me to say it! We were driving in rush hour the other day and there is a really horrible roundabout near where we live called Spittals- it is always full of traffic.

We got to it and I said 'oh f*cking Spittals' to Mr E- Mads who was in the back seat repeating it word for word. Mr E was so cross with me! Luckily she hasn't said it since.

    1. This made me chuckle, sometimes it just comes out without any warning! I am sure Mads probably forgot moments later but it doesn't bode well for our conscience does it! xx
