The Early Scan at Peek a Baby Bromsgrove - 6 Weeks Pregnant

6 weeks pregnant - Rainbow Baby

On the 25th of March 2025—just nine weeks before our wedding day—I found out I was pregnant.

I can still feel the rush of emotions from that moment. The second those two pink lines appeared, everything paused. For a split second, it was just me, the test, and the memory of what a positive pregnancy test truly means... and what it doesn’t always mean.

Graham was over the moon. His joy was instant and unshakable. But for me? I was cautious. I've learned the hard way that a positive doesn’t always promise a happy ending. The ache of Louis’s pregnancy and the heart-wrenching goodbye we were forced to say still lives close to the surface. His presence, his strength, his loss—it’s all shaped how I now navigate pregnancy.

But despite everything, I stayed calm.

There was a quiet sense of trust this time. My anxiety, surprisingly, held back. I chose to believe that peace was possible, and I summoned all the positive, healthy energy I could to our tiny, growing baby. Our baby. Baby Carter.

Even before I told Graham the news, I had already called the doctors. That will make him laugh when he reads this, I’m sure! Things had changed slightly since Louis’s pregnancy—there was now a self-referral system for midwife care. I filled in the form, and before long my first appointment was confirmed.

I estimated our due date to be the 8th of December 2025, although based on my last cycle, late November was also a possibility.

My first midwife appointment came on the 7th of April. I had a spring cold, my voice was barely there, and Graham sadly couldn’t make it due to a big work meeting. He was gutted, but I promised to call him so he wouldn’t miss out on any of the important health questions—it’s our first baby together.

At the appointment, I gave a urine sample, had my bloods taken, and did a carbon monoxide test. I blew a 1—likely from car pollution, they said. I was also introduced to the new Badger Notes app, which has now replaced the paper maternity notes. I must admit, it felt strange not carrying that little folder around!

In those first few weeks, I managed to hold off booking a private scan. But eventually, the curiosity and need for reassurance got the better of me. I told Graham, “I need to know what’s going on inside of me.” And so, I booked an early scan at Peek a Baby in Bromsgrove for Saturday 19th April 2025.

I didn’t realise until we pulled up outside—but I’d been there before. It was the same place we’d had Louis’s gender scan. The one where we were told he was very poorly. That moment hit me like a wave. Familiar building. Familiar fear.

I’d been guzzling water all morning, absolutely bursting for the loo. The sonographer was running late and told me to “let a bit out—count to ten then stop.” I think I did that about three times! The nerves were properly setting in now. Up until this moment, I had felt relatively calm. But this... scans are where things had always gone wrong before.

When we were finally called in, I lay down, they applied the gel, and the Doppler met my stomach. Instantly, a gestational sac appeared. For a terrifying moment, it looked empty. My heart dropped. Please not another missed miscarriage.

Then, there it was—a fetal pole... and the tiniest flicker of a 6-week-old heartbeat. A real, strong beat. Our baby. A brand new little life.

6 weeks pregnant

Graham’s eyes welled. Mine did too. There in front of us was our creation. The little person we had made together. A baby that would be coming to our wedding, and even tagging along on our honeymoon.

It felt real now. We left Peek a Baby beaming—me in awe, Graham already besotted. I was pregnant. We were having a baby. And this time, we allowed ourselves to start believing... I knew I was a way off being convinced yet, but it was a start.

The pregnancy fatigue had really kicked in early, I would say right from thye first positive test. My chest has been sore (and surprisingly warm to the touch!), and naps have become a regular part of my day. I’m sleeping whenever I can, surrendering to the changes my body is going through.

I still have my moments. Quiet fears that creep in. But mostly, I’m choosing hope.

Hope for what’s to come.

Hope for a healthy little Carter.

Hope for a love story that continues—with a new chapter on the way.

A Kind Message from Worcester

Then, on 22nd April, I received a text that truly touched me. It was from the bereavement team at Worcester Hospital. They had seen my name on the system and kindly reached out to offer support, knowing that pregnancy after loss can bring its own quiet storm of emotions.

They offered me an early reassurance scan over at the hospital on Monday 28th April, and of course, I gladly accepted. I needed to know that our baby was growing and that heartbeat was still strong.

Graham met me from work, and together we returned to the Early Pregnancy Unit—a place I knew all too well. It was in that very unit that, back in July 2019, I had been told I was suffering a missed miscarriage.

But this time, it was different.

Our little splodge popped up on the screen, measuring 8 weeks gestation, and everything looked perfect for their age. The sonographer was happy. We were happy. Our hearts, for a moment, felt light again.

Looking Ahead

Our official 12-week scan was originally booked for 8th May at Evesham Community Hospital, but based on my dates and previous scans, I knew I would only be around 9 weeks at that point.

I really wanted to make sure we had the nuchal translucency measurements done within the proper window of 11–14 weeks, so we had the scan rearranged for Monday 19th May.

Just days before we were due to fly to Santorini for our big day... and then head straight on to America for our honeymoon road trip adventure across the States!

11 Weeks Pregnant - High NT (Nuchal Translucency)

11 weeks Pregnant - High NT (Nuchal Translucancy) Result

I have hit week 11 of pregnancy and with each passing day I feel like I am in uncharted territory. You would be forgiven for thinking that this was my first baby, not my second.

Leo was such a straight forward textbook pregnancy, after his scan at 9 weeks I knew that at the end of the pregnancy I would have a baby in my arms. This time despite having 2 scans already in a mere 11 weeks of pregnancy, there is more doubt than ever that I will ever hold my baby in my arms than ever before.

In some respects I do feel pregnant now, I’m waking up anything between 2-5 times a night for a wee. I don’t remember that starting this early!? It’s a real thing though, and my boobs are really sore and veiny.

That aside though, if it wasn’t for the high NT... this really would be another dream pregnancy.

Since my scan on Thursday I have been a crazed pregnant Google lady. I have been re-searching high NT (Nuchal Translucency) testing and results, I have been finding some incredibly amazing, heart warming positive stories that have given me hope in the darkest of days, and I have read some equally heart-breaking accounts of what high NT actually means.

My CVS (Chorionic Villus Sampling) is happening tomorrow at 4pm. They will be inserting a needle  into my abdomen and removing a sample of cells from the placenta. They will then work up my baby and his or her chromosomes. Within 3 working days I should have my first set of results back that will tell me whether or not our little Nugget has one of the 3 Trisomies.

- Edwards Syndrome
- Down Syndrome
- Patel Syndrome

It's ironic really that I spent the first 10 weeks over thinking another missed miscarriage that I took my babies over all health for granted. I agreed to the Nuchal Translucency test at my booking in appointment without giving it a second thought. I saw a heartbeat on the screen and a active real looking baby dancing around and just expected to hear that everything was OK, that everything was as it should be.

In my 3rd pregnancy I am learning yet another valuable lesson.

I wonder if there was something I could have done differently, is the high NT because I had flu and took a few Paracetamol? Could I really be having a poorly baby at the age of 30?

In my research over the past few days I have been given a glint of hope, my first findings were that the NT scan should actually take place between 11 - 13 weeks and when the baby measures a minimum of 45mm (1.8 inches). At the time of our last scan I was 10 weeks + 5 days, and the baby measured 39mm.

High NT (Nuchal Translucancy) Result

Another theory for a raised NT is the way the baby is or has been laying within the sac, if the baby is too flat then sometimes the fluid can pool there with nowhere else to go... It may be wishful thinking but I am intrigued to see what the Nuchal Fold measurement is tomorrow at the scan where I will be 11 weeks + 3 days.

I have made the decision to stay positive, I am going to get answers and request only facts. Speculation will not serve me well so I have prepared a list of questions. I feel that I have addressed everything that has gone through my mind over the last few days.

I know that ultimately it is a waiting game, and that the real answers will come in the form of cold hard facts from the results of the CVS.

At 11 weeks I should be feeling excited at making the announcement of our baby to our friends and family, but right now it feels like a big secret. Right now I am trying to work out and fathom the fate for my unborn child, and I have a feeling that this will be something I fight for my entire pregnancy.

Tomorrow I will push for a new NT measurement, I will ask all the questions about how the overall structure of our baby is looking, are there any other markers/anomalies that jump out at them?

Can they see any issues with the heart at this stage?

Is the heartbeat strong and normal?

My actual list of questions is rather long and I feel that they may wonder what force that have allowed into their office.

Of course I am hoping for a happy ending, I am hoping that I am one of the lucky ones who's baby had an un-explainable high NT that was born fit and healthy.

Right now I don't have the answers, I don't know what the future holds. I don't know if it means getting our baby at the end of it.

I am setting mini milestones to get through this pregnancy. The first mile stone is tomorrow, the CVS. If baby is still fighting and the heartbeat beating away, the next milestone will be the 12 week scan (which we don't currently have a date for). After this I expect that I will be booking an additional private scan so that Leo can see his baby brother or sister on the screen, I want to do this sooner rather than later just in case.

After this I have been told that we will most likely have a heart anomaly scan at 16 weeks so that they can see the heart in more detail and see if that is the reason for the raised NT.

My biggest milestone in this set of milestones will be the 20 week scan. If we can get through the CVS, if we can keep Nugget's heart beating away, and we smash all of our upcoming scans... the 20 week may just finally offer some hope and relief.

Right now based on our NT of 4.7mm we have a 50% chance of a healthy baby at the end of all this.

50%

This could increase or decrease based on what they find tomorrow. .

Last night I found Nugget’s heartbeat at home with a Doppler at 11+2. Right down low behind my pubic bone. It’s crazy how low they are right now, and even crazier that I found the magical beat beat beat of their heart.

I know it was definitely Nugget because last week I found my own (Insert Laughing here), Luke thought it was hilarious, but there was no mistaking this!

Where there is life, there is hope.

Pregnancy Update - Weeks 4-8

8 Weeks Pregnant - First Trimester

I didn't start writing lots of posts like last time, just in case the worst should happen.. again. So I just let the days and weeks tick by, I am writing now as I have had my early scan and I know that everything is ok. Baby has a beautiful strong heartbeat and I know how far along I am.

At this moment in time I am 8 weeks + 5, I found out stupidly early again though, 10 days past ovulation and before the HCG was strong enough for a Clear Blue Digital to even pick it up, the first one of those I got was a 'Not Pregnant' - Which in true style I popped open and revealed the faintest lines inside!

Over New Year and into early January I suffered with flu like symptoms, the lurgi had been doing the rounds and I was unlucky enough to succumb to it. I put off taken paracetamol for the first day due to the worry, but eventually gave in as even my eyes were hurting.

It was reassuring to know that we had the early scan booked.

Early baby Scan - 8 weeks

We went along to our early scan and baby lined up with my dates bar a few days, and we were given the Estimated Due Date of August 11th 2020! I was originally on the 7th August 2020 so it was literally just 4 days out from my own estimate which i'm pretty impressed with!

Not Pregnant Clear Blue

Fast forward a few days to the 29th November and I got my 'Pregnant - 1-2 weeks.

In the first few weeks up until what would have been about 6/7 I was incredibly tired.

Luke was away with work training, and he would ring around 10pm but I was already spark out asleep, so we went almost a week without physically talking on the phone due to the tiredness. Aside from the tiredness my boobs have been progressing in soreness and getting more veiny. It's strange how it happened because it really has been a gradual process and now they are noticeably sore, but not as sore as I remember them being in my pregnancy with Leo.

Positive Clear Blue Pregnancy Test

The tiredness as well, it's not the same as the tiredness in my first pregnancy. Up until 6/7 weeks I was in bed nice and early.... but now at almost 9 weeks I am back to staying up late again. If anything there have been some nights where I cannot sleep, or when I have the dreams have been so vivid and real.

I had a dream that mine and Luke's wedding went horribly wrong with lost rings and double bookings, I dreamt that I went to my baby scan and they found the baby straight away. That was the best dream, it almost felt like my body telling me that everything was going to be ok.

I had the opposite dream in my previous pregnancy, I had dreamed that at the scan there was no heartbeat, and subsequently went on to miscarry, but following my latest dream, I went to the scan and saw my little baby's heartbeat beating away on the screen!

Luke and I had kept the news to ourselves, the only person who knew outside our little fold was my sister Alice (who actually got sent the pregnancy test before Luke did!), Luke had been on his usual Monday night training session, and when he walked through the door just before 10pm, he could see my sister and I sat at the breakfast bar leaning over a very faint pregnancy test!

NHS Pregnancy Notes

Luke was in disbelief the longest, I started taking my folic acid as soon as I found out, and I booked my booking in appointment for the 17th December 2019. I knew that I would be required to give a urine sample so I sat there at the first of many appointments that require a full bladder (really needing a wee!). I was hoping that I would have the same midwife as back in June, and then she popped her head around the corner and called me into her office telling me how nice it was to see me back!

As Luke couldn't make the appointment I decided to take the notes I had from our miscarriage as all Luke's details were the same, so this allowed Louise to simply transfer them all over into fresh notes for a new pregnancy.

I got a little upset as we discussed what happened but she kept telling me that I was here to stay this time, that they were going to keep me. She took bloods and the urine sample and that wrapped up our booking in appointment.

It was super quick because we already had all the information, which also meant I made it to school in time to pick Leo up!

That night I decided to take a photograph of my maternity notes (Don't ask me why, I have no idea). I climbed into the bath and sent what I thought was a funny meme to my family's group chat (I'm talking, Dad, Mum, Brothers x 2, Sister and all of their partners... Of course what I really sent was this photo of my pregnancy notes!

Guess what? I couldn't work out how to delete images on WhatsApp! Within a second my brother replied... I'll insert the screen grab of the conversation below.

Basically I announced my pregnancy by mistake to my whole family!

Everyone but Leo of course...

Now we have seen the heartbeat, now we know that the baby is growing and healthy we decided to tell Leo on the 2nd Jan 2020.

Best Bro T-shirt and Baby Scan

We laid out the 'Best Bro' t-shirt that we had bought for him back in June (the t-shirt that he never wore, that has just been sat in a box) and placed the baby scan on top and called him into the kitchen. I asked him what he thought it was and he told me 'it's a baby' and he knew straight away. He asked me if it was another baby and I explained that yes it was and he was so happy. A massive smile on his face at the realisation that he was finally going to be a big brother in August 2020.

He couldn't believe how long we have all known though, he jokingly called me a dirty liar while giggling.

The day after the scan and telling Leo, we all ventured over to Worcester to see what baby bargains could be had at Mothercare before they close their doors forever! It was a sad sight but we managed to get some wonderful bits!

The scan and actually buying some bits for baby has made it all seem so much more real.

I have a NHS Dating Scan on 16th January, I should be 10+2 at that point.

Let’s just hope this pregnancy continues to stay normal and uneventful.

We're Pregnant After a Miscarriage

Pregnancy after miscarriage

I really didn't think that I would be writing this post so soon, or ever actually. Somehow, some kind of Christmas magic or by a crazy twist of fate...

I am pregnant... Again.

I am pregnant for the second time in 2019, pregnant again following my miscarriage back in July.

I am pregnant.

It's been less than 4 months since I lost our second baby, and here I am with the faintest little line on a pregnancy test. A glimmer of hope in the dark tunnel that I have been sliding along since our baby left.

I really did not think that November was going to be our month, and to be honest we weren't even trying. In fact we weren't trying so much so.... That we didn't even do the deed throughout my fertile window (Or at least I didn't think it would have counted).

This truly is a miracle conception, as those little swimmers were laying around waiting at least 4-5 days before an egg came into the equation. But those two little lines do not lie.

I have felt my ovulation pains more since the miscarriage, and that night of the 15th November they were really painful, I knew exactly what it was and dosed up with paracetamol.

I have been testing every month since the miscarriage happened, It's a little addiction and I am always expecting it to come back negative, and they always do... Or they did...

I did the test and hopped into the bath for a soak after a busy Monday at work. I stayed in there 20 minutes or so without really giving the test a second thought, because I was certain it would be negative. Heck I didn't even know why I was doing a test, but I got out and went to have a look...

Pregnancy after miscarriage

I held the test up to the light certain that there was a second line. Confused, but certain. I moved out into the next rooms light, there was a line, the faintest line I have ever seen on a test before. I was only 10 days post ovulation at this point so really I wasn't due to test until at least November 30th (when my period was due).

I swear by the One Step Internet Cheapies, they have not steered me wrong yet, and they produced a very faint line 5 days before my period was due. It was so faint that I was convinced I had line eyes. I took a photo and decided to send it to my sister, who was certain that she too could see the second line.

I sent it to Luke and was met with '****', as we hadn't been trying this was a shock for both of us after what happened in July. I should still be pregnant with our little Pop, but my body had obviously decided to throw us into a whole new pregnancy.

I am so ready for this, it feels like a second chance. Right now it feels like I am stepping on egg shells, and I am really making sure to take care of my self. I have cut caffeine all together, stopped exercising (apart from dog walks) and just giving into the overwhelming tiredness that hits in the early evenings.

It's been a week since I found out now, and I have watched the test line get darker each day (even though I know this means nothing in the long run), I have had it confirmed on a First Response and a Clear Blue Digital, I am currently about 2 weeks since conception.

I don't know how this is going to pan out, I don't know if I am going to get to hold my baby at the end of this pregnancy, all I know is, I need to stay positive and keep taking it a day at a time.

What will be will be, but I would love this pregnancy to work out so much.

I am not telling family this early on, Leo won't know until we know everything is OK this time around. I can't get him all excited again and then break his heart again. He would love to be a big brother so much, I truly do hope that this time I can make him one.

First Trimester - 6 Weeks Pregnancy Update

First Trimester - 6 Weeks Pregnancy Update

At 6 weeks baby is the size of a Chocolate Chip

This week has been so long, I have been waiting for my NHS scan to roll around after all of the worry caused by the early scan. I remember the first trimester feeling long with Leo, but it in no way compares to just how long this pregnancy has felt so far.

I always thought finding out early was a real blessing, but as it turns out finding out so early is probably the reason I put myself through a private early scan in the first place.

Finding out early has meant I have put myself through in-necessary worry and panic when I should have been trusting my body to do the right thing. After all, there were no complications with Leo, not one. He was a textbook pregnancy and I have to believe that this is the case again.

When I look back at this pregnancy (hopefully in 9 months time while cradling my little bundle), I hope that I realise that I spent so much time worrying for no reason. The one good thing about finding out early and my dates not being exact, is that I have seen Pop develop completely. I have seen Pop as just a gestational sac, I have seen Pop with a tiny fetal pole, and next week I will hopefully see the heartbeat.

I still have my private scan coming up on August 1st. I pushed it back as I wanted the all clear from the NHS and my midwife first (for some reason I have no trust in Peek-a-Baby... I cannot imagine why!), so that means Leo will get to see his little brother or sister for the first time.

I am hoping that we will walk away with all of the scan images that were captured, it would make a nice little addition to Pop's memory box.

Then of course we will have the 12 week scan (Towards the end of August, after I turn the big 30!)

Positive One Step Pregnancy Test Line Progression

How am I feeling?

My symptoms are coming and going, I thought I was imagining it but one day my boobs are really sore and the next they feel more normal again.

I’m assured that this is perfectly normal, but it’s a massive contrast to how I was with Leo. With my first pregnancy it felt like I could have slept for 100 years and still been tired when I woke up!

I genuinely think that if I hadn’t had a positive pregnancy test (or 50....) I wouldn’t for a second think I was pregnant. Yes I have symptoms but they aren’t the kind that would make me suddenly think ‘ahhh I might be pregnant!’.

When the end of the day rolls around I am ready to close my eyes for a well deserved sleep, but this week I have been struggling to drift off (ironic much!) and I have woken multiple times in the night too. Rumour has it that along with pregnancy fatigue there is this marvellous wonder called pregnancy insomnia!

And yes it is very much real!

I’ve spent the evening yearning for my bed, only to get there and not sleep. There was one night this week that I felt like I didn’t actually go to sleep, but I must have had a little shut eye.

Food wise I feel like I may be coming out of the other side, I’ve been eating a very rubbish diet of late but I am hoping to turn this around sooner rather than later.

First Trimester - 6 Weeks Pregnancy Update

Dating Scan

I had my NHS Dating Scan on Thursday, it looks as if I am due in March as opposed to my first thought of February (which means Leo’s t-shirt was wrong).

I saw a fetal pole (as you will know if you have read the post all about how this scan went), but due to the fact we didn’t observe the heartbeat I need to go back on Thursday (I should be 7+6 then) and it will most likely result in an internal scan.

They say that this early on internals are the best way to get the detail you need, but as I said at the start of this post, if I hadn’t found out so early on, I do think that a lot of this panic and worry could have been avoided.

We just have to hope now that little Pop has a heartbeat to be seen next week, I’m really optimistic but I just want to know once and for all now.

6 Week Pregnancy Ultrasound - NHS Dating Scan

Announcing My Pregnancy at Work

Yup! As the headline states... I announced my pregnancy to my boss this week. Completely unintentionally and in typical Laura style, very irrationally and you could even go as far as saying hysterical! Yup crazy hormonal pregnant lady... coming right at you!

It was all a bit spur of the moment, one minute I am lay on the scanning table at the hospital. The next I am being told I need an emergency viability scan, within the next moment I am dialing my boss... And then the words leave my mouth faster than I can spit them out.

I was pondering the thought of how I was going to tell people, so maybe ripping the bandaid off was the best thing to do, little to no thought went into it, but at least it's out in the open now. I can fill everyone else in once I get the all clear (hopefully on Thursday!).

Here’s a little overview of 6 weeks pregnant..

It's been a battle of love and hate with sleep this week, some nights it comes easy, and others this pregnancy insomnia likes to keep me awake over analysing every twinge and keep sleep at a distance.

Symptoms:
Achey boobs, fatigue, ill peeing multiple times, baby brain is in full swing (I think this is just who I am these days!) My boobs have gone really veiny now!

Bump:
No bump to report yet, just that of the food baby I have been lovingly crafting!

Exercise:

Exercise is something that I am building up to, It has been a few weeks now (who am I kidding? It's easily a month!), but I do want to build it back up and get a routine back in place.

First Trimester - 4 Weeks Pregnancy Update

First Trimester - 4 Weeks Pregnancy Update

At 4 weeks the baby is STILL about the size of a Poppy Seed!

I seem to have really confused myself with this whole dating thing and how far gone I am, I know when I ovulated and the week I would have conceived, but the early reassurance scan has baffled me. I have to wait until this Friday to go back to Peek-a-baby in birmingham to get a more solid due date!

This 2 week wait has been driving me nutty.

How am I feeling?

I’ve had days this week where I’ve been feeling a little queasy still, but no real morning sickness and not once have I actually been sick.

I have lost my usual ravenous appetite though, I get full really quickly (and this actually infuriates me! Haha!). I’ve gone off foods I normally love, and for the last 2 weeks I haven’t been enjoying my usual favourite breakfast of Greek Yoghurt, honey and flaked almonds!

I don’t remember losing my appetite while I was pregnant with Leo, I’m hoping this doesn’t last long term as I do truly love my food. I have found the foods that I am craving to eat are far from the healthy foods I normally bestow upon my body. I cooked a stir fry up for the family this week, and all I could do was push it around my plate. I didn’t enjoy it one little bit...

I may have thrown it in the bin and found myself at the McDonald’s drive through... again... this is a relationship I need to break up with sooner rather than later!

As for my tummy, I’ve done a real number on losing my tone and abs over the last few weeks. I know it’s the meal choices I have been making and not that baby is starting to show, so I really need to clean my eating back up and get back on the fitness train. Although that is hard when the idea of vegetables isn’t hitting the spot in the same way as it did before I fell pregnant!

Baby Brain Strikes AGAIN

It was Leo’s birthday on the 27th, and the night before we all went to Mr Mulligan’s Crazy Golf in Cheltenham. We decided to get some drinks to go around the course with, I asked the bar lady for 2 pints of soda and lime, she asked if I wanted some cloudy apple (which I assumed was just an alternative to the lime juice!). I was surprised when it cost me £10 for 2 drinks.... and even more surprised when I took a big gulp to discover I had in fact been given cider!

I sent Luke back to the bar to explain that I didn’t want cider, I wanted a soda and lime! Thankfully he returned with said soda and lime... but how on earth do you upgrade someone’s soda and lime to a cider!?

I’ve continued to feel very sleepy at the end of each day this week, I’ve been getting my head down much earlier than I would ordinarily, but I seem to have surpassed the stage where I feel the need to wake up early now! Today is Sunday and I slept in until just after 8:30, which is so much later than the 6am it was the other week!

First Trimester - 4 Weeks Pregnancy Update

Who Knows About The Pregnancy?

We  decided to tell our families about little Pop today (Sunday 30th June), Leo’s t-shirt had arrived and it’s brilliant!

We wanted to tell them even though we’re now a little confused on how far gone we are.... but this secret is something I am struggling to keep in now!

We made our way over to Luke’s Dad’s and shared the news there first, both Grandparents were very pleased. Then we made the way to my parents house and Leo worked his magic there too.

Most people worked the t-shirt out straight away, but my Dad needed a little help deciphering the code!

There was a lot of excitement, Aunties, Uncles and Grandparents are looking forward to the new arrival in February (Although this is now looking more like a March 2020 due date!), and everyone is secretly hoping for a baby girl!

My sister Alice and Sister-in-law Carla both want to be in charge of organising a gender reveal. It’s not something I thought we would ever do.... but Luke and I think that it’s actually a really lovely idea, and what a lovely family moment to have in the years to come!

Leo had already let our little secret slip slightly on his birthday, I did chuckle. He was swinging on the swing at my parents house, I happened to comment what a good swinger he was these days. Leo replied ‘yes! I will have to teach the baby!’

My dad who was sat next to me on the patio didn’t blink an eyelid, I’m still not sure whether he heard or not, or if it went straight over his head... or maybe he heard and chose to ignore it until we told them!? Who knows! As it turns out... my Dad was completely oblivious to it!

Good old Dad!

Leo threw his hand over his mouth, we both chuckled. He’s done so well keeping this secret (we told him on the 4th June, so he has known for weeks!), and he’s just so excited, he wants to talk about the baby (and this just makes my heart boom, he is so in love already!).

Leo ran over and demanded to talk to me in the house, he just wanted to say sorry and tell me it was an accident. Of course he would never be in any trouble for that.

Right now though I am off to buy one final Clear Blue Digital test.... I know I have a real problem, but seeing them turn positive just gives me a little reassurance.

It still doesn’t feel real.

Typically I did the test and it was the second one to come up invalid! I don’t know what I’ve done wrong these last attempts but it’s annoyed me immensely!

Thankfully I got my hands on some more One Step internet cheapies! So that’s put me back in business!

Of course they are all positive!

First Trimester - 3 Weeks Pregnancy Update

First Trimester - 3 Weeks Pregnant

At 3 weeks pregnant, baby is the size of a Poppy Seed!

This week marks the day that officially makes my period late. My longest cycle was 57 days, and today is day 58!

My last period was April 24th, and we are now well into June.

Having cycles with no real pattern is something I can’t get used to, and since finding out that I am pregnant and not being ‘late’, I think this is one of the things I’ve really struggled to get my head around.

Even now at 3 weeks pregnant, ir feels like I’ve known for a lifetime, time is going so slowly right now. I think because my symptoms are so hit and miss, I don’t really feel pregnant.

I’ve told quite a few people about my positive test now, close friends anyway.

I haven’t told any family members yet because I’m determined to tell them in my own special way!

I’ve ordered Leo a t-shirt, and it’s Leo and the t-shirt that will make the announcement... it should arrive towards the end of next week. Either on Leo’s birthday or the following day!

How am I feeling?

There have been days this week where my boobs are really sore, and days where they are not so sore. Tiredness comes and goes but only seems to really hit in the late evening, not like with Leo at all. I was so tired with Leo for weeks and weeks, it’s crazy how different this feels already.

I always thought if and when I found out I was pregnant again, I would just know before the test came back positive, but that wasn’t how it happened and although the news has sunk in now (and I’m over the moon) I’m still in disbelief that it has actually really happened.

I’ve been a bit weird with food this week too, I’m hungry but don’t have an appetite for much. I was loving savoury mince and mash last week, but this week the idea isn’t appealing at all. I cooked up a chicken stir fry for everyone on Saturday, but when it came to eat it... all I could do was push it around my plate.

One food I am loving right now, is something I NEVER usually eat. McDonald’s. A sweet and chilli chicken wrap with fries.

This baby is going to ruin me!

Would I call it a craving? I’m not sure yet, but it’s certainly one of the only things I really fancy eating right now. I’ve had it for 2 consecutive days now, but this baby best not get used to it, because I’m going to have to refuse to eat it!

First Trimester - 3 Weeks Pregnant

I’ve had a few days where I’ve felt a little nauseous at times, but it’s over as quickly as it comes on. I feel like it’s in my mind. I’ve not been sick and it’s like a passing thing over a few minutes.

I was driving to the second part of my booking in appointment (it was split up as Luke couldn’t attend the first, so we left the questions for a second appointment) and I felt a little sicky as I was driving over, but within 5 minutes it was over.

Baby Brain Has STRUCK

Granted I hadn’t had breakfast, because well... funny story really...

I had a complete baby brain of a morning, that essentially started the night before...

I had left my car/house keys at my parents, gone home in Luke’s car and he of course has a house key... So we got in fine and I went straight to bed as I was super sleepy by 10pm.

I was adamant that our midwife appointment was at 10:30am the following day (Saturday), that’s exactly what I had put into the shared calendar on my iPhone. Something made me check the text with the midwife though shortly before 9am...

Turns out that the actual appointment was scheduled for 9:30am!

First Trimester - 3 Weeks Pregnant

I called Luke who had gone to the gym, quickly got ready and the realised that I only had my spare car key... and I had no key to the lock the front door.

It never assumed to me to lock the door from the inside, and go out the back door taking the back door key with me!

Well until Luke mentioned it!

I had text my midwife in all the panic and as she’s so amazing she told me there was no rush, and we made it to the appointment. If anything I think it helped her realise I was going to be a crazy hormonal pregnant lady for the next 9 months, and it probably helped prepare her!

On Sunday I felt rough on and off all day, I wasn’t hungry and didn’t have any breakfast, instead I opted to get on top of the housework and even mow the lawn. When it came to bleaching the toilets, the smell of the bleach made me heave, and at one point I ran retching to the the loo!

Thankfully I wasn’t poorly!

Later that day I drove over to my parents, not long as arriving I realised I was coming  down with a migraine, spots appeared in front of my eyes, and then a ache popped into my head. Ironically it was only a few days before that I had been sat in my Midwife appointment telling her how I hadn't had a migraine in years!

I’ve had to pop a few paracetamol, have a bag of strawberry laces and a lie down on the sofa!

What I have realised this week, is I have barely taken any pre-bump photos, and this needs to change! In other news... I finally got a 3+ on a Clear Blue Digital Test!

Positive Clear Blue Digital Pregnancy Test - 3+ Weeks

Here’s a little over view of 3 weeks pregnant...

Symptoms:
Achey boobs, fatigue (gradually coming on STILL), slightly queasy (every now and then) still peeing multiple times, baby brain has arrived!

Bump:
No sign just yet, but I can’t wait for it to make an appearance.

Exercise:
I have been a little more slack with exercise this week, I did get a 2.5k walk in but I want to be more consistent long term, I am hoping that as my energy levels pick up more in the next month or so, I will have more energy to put into it.
