The 31st
January saw the turn of the Chinese New Year, and as always I seized my chance
to grab a Chinese takeaway to help celebrate the year of the Horse.
Every
year we take the chance to enjoy a big Chinese feast, usually cooked up by my
rather talented Mother, whose home cooked Chinese Banquets have become a little
bit famous amongst close friends and family. This year though the New Year fell
on a day that she was due to go jetting off to Iceland for a week, and so we
decided to celebrate anyway, but with a local takeaway instead!
In the
spirit of all things Chinese we teamed up with the guys over at Hungry house,
to help make a big deal out of this often neglected event here in the UK. They
sent out some goodies in the post for us to decorate our humble abode, and even
some fortune cookies.
Having
never used Hungry House before I was interested to see how we got on with it. I
downloaded the app to my phone and registered through the Facebook option. It
was easy enough to get the food ordered and then we simply had to kick back and
relax as we awaited our tasty Chinese takeout to arrive. I found the service we
received over all very good, the food was nice and hot when it arrived and of
course hit all the right taste buds on the way down.
Leo
enjoyed eating ample amounts of prawn crackers and of course dipping them in
the Sweet and Sour sauce. This is Leo’s little trick whenever we indulge in a
Chinese!
The one
aspect of the order that I would like to see stepped up is how long it takes
from placing the order to the arrival of the food. Having ordered with this
take out before independently I know the food is delivered much faster. The
order confirmation speculates an estimated arrival time but it was almost an
hour 40/50 minutes after the order was placed. This was fine for us, but had we
ordered and been in a hurry to get out it could have meant that we would have
had to re-think our plans.
Over all
the service at Hungry House was great and I will definitely be using them again
in the future. I love the convenience of being able to use an app on my phone
to order our takeaway and have the menus laid out in front of me. It would be
nice to see more of our local takeaway restaurants signing up to Hungry House
so I may have to find a way to get them signed up.
How did
you all spend Chinese New Year this year?
Disclaimer: I was issued with a Hungry House Voucher, Amazon Voucher and a party pack for our New Years Eve party.
