If you think you don’t have time to look after your skin, think again. Looking after your skin is important at any stage of life and even the busiest women should be able to fit in these ten tried and tested tips.

1. Get into a morning routine

What you really need when you’re pushed for time is structure and routine. Get into the habit of a simple morning skin care routine and your face and body will thank you for it. The basic steps you need to remember are to cleanse, gently exfoliate (at least three times a week) and protect. 

2. Get into an evening routine

The same idea about routine applies in the evening too. At night, skip the exfoliation and use more intensive night cream if necessary.

3. Understand your skin type

There’s little point in using products aimed at a different skin type. The basic skin types that products are aimed at are oily, combination, normal, dry and sensitive.


If you have oily skin, use light cleansers and oil-free moisturisers. If you have dry skin, using a good facial oil will keep your skin soft and supple. Sensitive skin needs products without harsh ingredients. Once you understand your skin type and use products tailored to it, you are halfway there to great looking skin. 

4. Use multi-purpose products

Why use two products for a certain task when just one will do? Products such as a cleanser that also gently exfoliates, or a moisturiser with sun protection, are just the thing for women on the go.

5. Eat a balanced diet

You are what you eat, and your skin will thank you for eating a balanced diet that isn’t overloaded with carbohydrates or heavily salted or processed foods.

6. Stay hydrated

Proper hydration is essential for healthy looking skin, so make sure you drink enough water throughout the day. 

7. Keep a stash of cleansing wipes for emergencies

Whether you’re really too tired or are away from home and need a quick skincare solution, cleansing wipes are the answer. You should never go to bed without removing makeup as it can cause your pores to clog. Many cleansing wipes also tone and moisturise at the same time.

8. Use sunscreen

Sunscreen is vital for protecting your skin during periods of exposure to the sun. Pick a product with at least SPF 30, with protection against both UVA and UVB rays, and use it in winter as well as summer. 

9. Don’t forget about your lips

Don’t forget to protect your lips against the sun. A lip balm with SPF 15 is recommended. 

10. Use a mask once a week

It may seem counter-intuitive to spend time applying a face mask when you’re pushed for time, but carving out just a few minutes once a week can reap benefits, helping to hydrate dry skin, tighten pores or remove blemishes. Use a mask suited for your skin type and you’ll have completed your essential steps to have a beautiful skin.
