The Baba Sling Review

When you have a baby, it does not take you long to fathom all the different methods of transportation that are readily available in the ever expanding baby market. After the obvious method being pushchairs, there are of course many different types of slings and baby carriers out there, but how on earth do you choose the right one for you?

I am hoping to eliminate some of the choice out there by telling you all about The Baba Sling, that Leo and I have had the pleasure of reviewing over the weekend.

So what is the Baba Sling?

The Baba Sling is a revolution in design, comfort and simplicity. The carrier features a hammock style sling that is perfectly shaped to support a newborn’s developing spine. The Baba Sling is great in those early days, providing essential closeness and bonding between parent and child.

The Baba Sling is available in many different colours and prints, providing a great choice and a stunning range. We have been sent a beautiful Turquoise Sling which happens to be one of the new colours this season, and also one of the new Lite range.

The Lite range is Baba Slings brand new and exciting set of baby slings. They have been carefully designed for hotter climates and Summer months. They are made with the airy cotton Twill. The Lite range is more breathable and 20% lighter than Baba Slings Classic range, and is perfect for keeping Mummy and baby cool, while out and about.

Key Features of the Baba Sling

- Designed to carry babies and toddlers (0 - 2yr+ / 2kg - 15kg)

- Has 5 different carrying positions + 2 breast-feeding positions

- One size fits all, adjusts in seconds

- Machine washable at 40 degrees 100% Cotton

What is in the box?

In the box you will find the Baba Sling and a manual which explains each of the different carrying positions and how to achieve them safely. I found the manual very useful when making sure my new sling was set up correctly, and placing Leo in it for the first time.

So what did Leo and I think?

As soon as the sling arrived I was so excited to try it out right away, of course Leo had picked this opportunity to have a mid morning nap, so I was forced to wait. I took this time to get to know the sling and started altering the different straps. I succeeded in getting the straps just right and then it was just a waiting game...waiting for my little man to awake.

As soon as my sleeping beauty awoke, I placed him into the sling. Once I had the sling lying just right and had Leo tucked securely on my hip, we were ready to go.

We first tried it around the house, just so I could get the feel of it. Leo loved being free to look around and I liked being able to carry Leo, while having full use of both my hands. With our trial of the sling being very positive, I decided to take the sling with me on a walk into town. Leo started off in the pushchair, but when he got fidgety and began to show signs of having enough, I pulled out the trusty sling.

It was easy to put on, and moments later I had placed Leo safely into the sling. Leo was much happier with the new found view, and my ears were rewarded with some peace and quiet. I find the sling comfortable to wear even with Leo weighing a hefty 23lbs. That being said after wearing it for a while you can certainly feel the weight on the one shoulder, but over all I find it a very comfortable sling.

We live a 15 minute walk from the town centre, and I carried Leo around the town while pushing the pushchair before carrying him the entire way home. I was very impressed with how Leo sat in the sling and how it enabled me to carry my grumpy baby boy home. The sling is now being stored in the shopping basket on our pushchair so I can easily get at it while out and about. It is perfect to have while feeding the ducks as I have both hands free to throw the bread.

I do wish I had the Baba Sling when Leo was a newborn, as I loved carrying him around with me. When he was asleep I would just sit with him and stare at this beautiful life I had created. The sling would have enabled me to do exactly this, while even being able to get some housework done!

I highly recommend the Baba Sling for parent's with a newborn baby, and up to about a year old. I cannot see me carrying Leo into his toddler days, but we shall see how we go as the sling is suitable for children up to the age of around 3 years old.

  1. I loved our Baba Sling whilst Elsie was newborn as it was great for quick trips out where her pram really wasn't necessary. We haven't used it recently but I might just pull it out of the draw after reading this post. Leo looks like he's having a great time!

  2. The beauty with the Baba Sling is that as you can easily alternate between several positions. Changing positions is essential while carrying baby, as it will redistribute the weight of your child to different areas of your body. This will avoid unnecessary stress on any one point for extended periods.
